Who is She?

Updated: Apr 26, 2020

Hey Buttercups! I wanted to start off my blog journey by giving you all a little bit more insight on who I am. This will include a slight recap of some life struggles of course, because what would life be without those. But most importantly, it will show you how still, I RISE. I am India, owner of Buttercreme Beauty and jack of many trades okurrrr. My pronouns are She/Her/Hers and I am from Flint, MI. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2019 with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on community governance and advocacy, with a minor in human behavior and social services. A mouth full, I know lol but I am currently an MSW Candidate at the University of Michigan. Sometime soon, you will be able to add me to the pool of Black female therapists.

Sob Story

Losing my legal guardian at a young age, being affected by the foster care system from ages 13-21& being in a toxic relationship all made me feel lost. I started drinking more, developing both intimate & non-intimate relationships (good and bad), smoking more, partying & just being. I think I felt so numb & just wanted to feel what I could. Now, I'm able to see how those setbacks have made me who I am. Talk about GROWTH okay, b/c back then I didn't think that there was gonna be light at the end of the tunnel.

Girl Spit it Out!

I say all of that to say that I really let myself go for a minute, but I didn't realize that would change my skin. In 2017, I randomly developed eczema dark spots/patches which caused my skin to become dry, irritated and cracked. All of which made me feel insecure about showing off my skin. I invested so much money into store bought products, and the results weren't worth it. While I found some products to be better than others, they all lacked long-term moisture and actual absorption. Because of this, I wanted to create a brand whose primary focus was moisture -Buttercreme Beauty
